British in Europe campaigned during the EU-UK negotiations on the UK’s Exit from the EU to protect our EU citizenship rights and has since worked on implementation of those rights enshrined in the Withdrawal Agreement and the rights of UK citizens in the EU generally, including a voting rights advocacy project funded by Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust last year.
Following months of preparation, BiE has been awarded a substantial grant by the European Commission for a ground-breaking initiative under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme which aims to protect and promote
the European Union's rights and values. You can follow our progress over the 20-month project
'Inform, Connect, Empower: Capacity Building for Charter Agents of Change (ICE)' on this website.
We will continue with other projects on a volunteer basis alongside this new initiative, including a get out the vote campaign across the UK diaspora of the reform of voting rights and encouraging these newly re-enfranchised voters to register to vote in the upcoming General Election. We will also be implementing structural changes to enable us to better meet the needs of the community over coming months. Please donate to support our work.
Did you know that you can vote in UK elections even if you have been out of the country for more than 15 years?
Following a change in the law you can now register to vote in the upcoming General Election on the government website. Once you have done this, you can register for a postal vote to be sent to your proxy in the UK, the safest way to ensure your vote will count on the day.
If you have any questions read our updated FAQs here or visit The Electoral Commission website which is packed with useful information.
